The clear Atlantic and white sand of Praia da Comporta
Comporta, Portugal Open in Google Maps

Comporta sits on the Tróia peninsula, about 115 km south of Lisbon Airport.

Comporta is a string of small villages between the Sado estuary and twelve unbroken kilometres of Atlantic sand, backed by rice paddies and umbrella pines. Building is tightly restricted, so there are no high-rises and no crowds — just beaches, long lunches and beautiful places to stay.

Getting around

Rent a car

The practical choice — about 1h 15m from Lisbon Airport over the Vasco da Gama bridge and down the A2/N253. The desks below are in the Terminal 1 arrivals hall (open roughly 6am to midnight daily), from premium fleets to budget deals:

  • SixtPremium fleet · desk in Terminal 1
  • HertzPremium · desk in Terminal 1
  • EuropcarMid-range · desk in Terminal 1
  • GuerinPortugal's own mid-range brand · Terminal 1

Taxis & transfers

Comporta has its own village taxi firm — always call ahead rather than hoping to flag one down, especially for early flights. A pre-booked private transfer from Lisbon Airport takes about 1h 15m and typically costs around €100–150 each way:

  • Táxis ComportaThe local firm, based on Rua das Comportas in the village — on call day and night for local runs and airport trips · +351 966 797 358
  • Welcome PickupsPrivate Lisbon Airport transfers — fixed price, driver meets you in arrivals
  • KiwiTaxiPre-booked transfers, from sedans up to eight-seat minivans

Uber & Bolt

Both apps work well in Lisbon and for the ride down, but drivers are scarce around Comporta itself — fine for arriving, not something to rely on locally. For the trip back, book the village taxi the day before.

Ferry via Tróia

Atlantic Ferries crosses the Sado estuary from Setúbal all day: the passenger catamaran leaves Rua Teotónio Banha for Tróia Marina (about 15 minutes, every half hour in summer), and the car ferry sails from Doca do Comércio to Tróia Cais Sul (about 25 minutes). Comporta is then a 20-minute drive down the peninsula. Buy tickets online, or at the terminal counters and machines in Setúbal:

Buses & public transport

Rede Expressos coaches link Lisbon's Sete Rios station with the Comporta area a few times a day — most run via Setúbal and Tróia and stop at Comporta Centro de Saúde (about 3 hours). Services are sparse, so check times before you rely on one:
